(New York, N.Y. April 26, 2012 ) — “Italian Futurists: Concepts and Imaginings”, an exhibit of 38 works in various media from leading Italian Futurist artists will be exhibited at New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò from April 26th through June 7th, 2012.

The Casa Italiana (24 West 12th Street, Greenwich Village) will be open on weekdays from 12 noon through 5 o’clock p.m., and admission is free of charge. The early 20th century works are drawn from the collection of Stefano and Carole Acunto, and include the works of first and second wave Italian Futurists.  The show is sponsored by the Italian Academy Foundation, Inc, founded in 1947 and dedicated to cultural diplomacy in the humanities and arts, and of which Mr. Acunto is Chairman.

The works on display demonstrate the Futurist artists’ exploration of energy, color and multimedia potential, and include themes and figures that dominate futurist art in the early 20th century. In Mr. Acunto’s words, “The self conscious style of these great artists, their boldness and determination to change the art world cannot help but compel the viewer to see this chapter in art history with renewed appreciation.”

Featured artists are Giulio D’Anna, Giacomo Balla, Pippo Rizzo, Lucio Venna, and Gerardo Dottori, amongst others representing several aspects of futurist art and its execution.

F.T. Marinetti’s Futurist Manifesto, which originally appeared in Le Figaro in 1909, can be found on the Italian Academy Foundation’s website with English, Italian and French translations.
